I resent that! A thesis is a child, it will be valued at least by the author/authoress. More than the committee will read it if you are in the right field, or if the thing is marketable (translation: some nonsensical marketing thing that mobile vulgus will swallow hook, line and sinker). Firthermore, if one actualy publishes it, that child will be one’s crowning achievement. One can also induce one’s students to read it if it is relevant to their coursework or whatnot. i speak from personal observation and experiences.
Of course, the Lady’s comments can only apply to those who harbor aspirations of one day producing a doctoral thesis that would be read by another person who harbors aspirations of one day…
